Greetings, dear readers. It's been a while since I've posted on my website, but I'm excited to reconnect with all of you today to discuss a topic that is particularly close to my heart:
                                                MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS

As a licensed clinical social worker with 30 years of experience, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of therapy and counseling. I've witnessed individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns, find hope, healing, and resilience through the therapeutic process. However, I also recognize that seeking counseling can be a challenging decision for many people, particularly in light of the world changes we have experienced.

From the global pandemic to social unrest, economic uncertainty, and political polarization, we have all been impacted by the events of the past year. As an African American clinician, I am acutely aware of the unique challenges and stressors facing communities of color. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted Black and Brown communities, highlighting longstanding health disparities and systemic inequities. Additionally, the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equality has brought to the surface the deep wounds of historical trauma and discrimination that continue to affect many individuals and communities.

In the face of these challenges, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and hopeless. However, seeking counseling can be an empowering and transformative step towards overall well-being.

Therapy is not a sign of weakness or failure; rather, it is a courageous act of self-care and self-compassion. It is a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional who can support you in developing new coping skills, enhancing your resilience, and increasing your sense of well-being.

One of the biggest changes in the world of mental health this year has been the increased availability of online counseling, allowing individuals to access counseling from the comfort of their own homes. Online counseling has proven to be an effective and convenient option for many people, particularly those who live in areas with limited access to mental health services or who have mobility or transportation challenges.

In addition to online counseling, there have been other positive changes in the mental health field. There has been a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and wellness, with more individuals and organizations advocating for increased access to mental health services and resources. There has also been a greater emphasis on culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, recognizing that mental health concerns are often rooted in social, cultural, and historical factors.

As the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, ends, I encourage anyone who may be struggling with their mental health to seek counseling.  You are not alone and there is absolutely no shame in reaching out for support.  Mental wellness is a journey, and it is never too late to start.

NRG-Coaching PLLC is here for you!  I am committed to supporting clients on their path to healing and well-being.  Together, we can weather the challenges of this year and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before!

Peace and blessing, Natalie
